According to a report from The Dallas Morning News, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was connected to a vehicle involved in a major car crash Saturday evening and police are now looking for him.

Here was that report from early Sunday morning:

“Police are looking for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice in connection with a major accident Saturday evening in northeast Dallas, law enforcement officials confirmed to The Dallas Morning News.

“A vehicle believed to be registered or leased to Rice was involved in a crash on North Central Expressway at about 6:20 p.m., officials told The News. The law enforcement officials said that police are looking for Rice, and a police call sheet obtained by The News confirmed that law enforcement officials were searching for him in connection with the accident.”

However, at this time, there’s no updates on what Rice’s role in the crash was, per The News: “His alleged involvement in the crash is unclear. A Dallas police spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.”

Background on Rice’s career

A former SMU Mustang, Rice caught 233 passes in college totaling over 3,100 yards and 25 touchdowns. He improved in each of his four seasons in school as he built up to a senior season where he finished with 96 catches for 1,355 yards and 10 scores.

Rice then came out in the 2023 NFL Draft and was the No. 55 pick for Kansas City as the franchise’s second round selection.

As a rookie for the Chiefs, Rice finished behind only TE Travis Kelce for reception statistics on the year. He caught 79 of his 102 targets for 938 yards in his 16 appearances. His seven touchdowns led the offense with two more than Kelce. He also proved himself to be reliable for QB Patrick Mahomes with equal drops to the rest of the receivers even though he saw twice as many targets.

Rice also put together an impressive first playoff run as the Chiefs stormed to another Super Bowl victory. He recorded 26 receptions across four postseason games and amassed 262 yards and a touchdown to easily put him over the 1,000-yard mark in total for his rookie season.

With Kelce’s growing age and Kansas City’s general lack of reliable pass catchers aside from the veteran tight end, Rice has a chance to really emerge as Mahomes’ No. 1 option over the next couple of seasons.
